Thousands of cyclists from around the globe came together for this year’s Ride Like King event, joining the celebration and contributing toward Giant Group’s ambitious goal to donate 700 bicycles to communities in need.
First launched in 2009, Ride Like King honors Giant Group founder King Liu and promotes the power of cycling to transform lives by improving health, strengthening communities, and supporting sustainability. Ride Like King is organized by Giant Group—parent company of the Giant, Liv, Momentum, and CADEX brands—in collaboration with World Bicycle Relief and Zwift.
This year’s campaign pledged to donate one Buffalo Bicycle for every 500km ridden. Participants rose to the occasion, logging more than 940,000km collectively, a significant increase over last year’s 600,000km total—and enough to meet the project’s goal.
As a result, 700 Buffalo Bicycles will be donated to support World Bicycle Relief initiatives. These durable, easy-to-maintain bicycles are designed to handle heavy loads, long distances and rugged terrain. Simple to maintain and easy to repair, they are manufactured by Giant Group and assembled by local workers in regions served by World Bicycle Relief.
This year’s weeklong event featured four days of Zwift warm-up rides, followed by three days of global “celebration rides” hosted virtually and outdoors. More than 10,000 riders from around the world participated on Zwift, doubling last year’s total of 5,000, while nearly 12,000 more joined in-person rides organized by Giant Group, its retail partners, and brand ambassadors.
“The Giant and Liv community—from staffers and retail partners to ambassadors and riders—came together in record numbers for Ride Like King 17,” said Giant Global Marketing Director An Le. “Bonded by the shared goal to celebrate the joy and benefits of cycling, and to help deliver 700 life-changing Buffalo Bicycles for World Bicycle Relief, riders from over 75 countries joined in for a fantastic week. We’re especially grateful for our longstanding partnership with Zwift and their support in expanding the reach and impact of Ride Like King 17.”
Riders shared their experiences by posting photos and stories on Giant and Liv social media. Contests throughout the event awarded limited-edition RLK17 jerseys, along with signed cards from King Liu, to participants.
